Ambiente lavoraivo molto stimolante

Chaotische Unternehmung ohne Wertetreue

Once a great place to work
Credit Suisse was my client for many years. Credit Suisse recruited me at a director level position and Senior Legal & Compliance officer. Credit Suisse was a great place to work when I joined in 2011 and had a great work culture for much of the time I worked there, but after 4 reorganizations in 7 years and massive cost cutting initiatives things changed, there were complete changes of management, the various reorganizations caused severe disruption to day to day work flow and took too long to implement without strategic direction from senior management. Experienced staff were pushed out and replaced with junior, low cost alternatives without requisite training and development of the junior staff and there was not a good succession planning or handover of know-how. The sense of valuing employees culture has changed to a cut-throat environment. Credit Suisse seems to lack strategic direction from the top down.

Schwieriges Arbeitsumfeld, gute Arbeitsbedingung

challenging workenvironement
Starting out as a contractor in the finance department I was able to get insight into the BackOffice. My manager was a great teacher and highly appreciative of the work I accomplished. Due to changes within the department (several Managers went on retirement) I looked and found another position within the company. I got the great opportunity to work within a global team for the IT department. My position was newly created and I was able to develop a whole new way of accomplishing big savings for the company. With my talent I achieved great results that benefited the company as well as the customers I had the chance of working together.

Varied, interesting work
There is no such thing as a typical day, the work is varied from day to day. In this position I have learned much about trade structures credit risk. Management is highly supportive. This was a work hard / play hard role with the emphasis on team work. The most challenging aspect of the job for me was adapting to a financial environment have spent the last 20 years in telecoms. I also find this the most enjoyable aspect, digging around in a database of risk data looking for the relevant issue - nothing better.

Credit Suisse - A sweet Swiss experience
I had the precious privilege of working at the prestigious and highly coveted investment bank -'Credit Suisse' in Singapore. I was placed through the esteemed'Optimum Solutions'. Credit Suisse had opened a new technology center in Singapore in 2004. So when I joined in mid 2006, it was relatively new center. Most of the management team had relocated from London to Singapore for creating and running it. Most of the developers were hired from India and most of the technical support team from Philippines. Many were initially hired on contract basis and those who performed well were converted into permanent employees. The managers from London were really good natured, amiable and nice. It was lovely to interact with them. We also used to collaborate with New York and London teams on almost a daily basis with regular audio and video conferencing calls every week. The work culture and environment was really cool, which impressed me the most. We used to get a lot of quality work done without having to work long hours or come on weekends. Thus it provided good work satisfaction, and decent work life balance. Also Singapore was a fabulous place to live, especially in the early/mid 2000s when the cost of living was still quite low as compared to the late 2000s. I really had a wonderful and exciting time in those days both inside as well as outside the office. Credit Suisse is a really good employer to work as it takes excellent care of its employees. Great culture for top producers; very challenging for up and comers
A typical day at work consists of either working to schedule meetings (building prospect lists, cold calling, sending emails) or traveling to visit clients, prospective clients and other centers of influence (such as trust and estate attorneys, accountants, investment bankers, etc.) I learned a lot about investments and optimal asset allocation for a variety of different types of investors. I also learned to be bold, to be comfortable in front of powerful, wealthy people, to have thicker skin in terms of handling constant rejection. Management was fine given their task of driving salespeople to be more assertive, but it was definitely lacking in terms of fostering a culture of growth, and in terms of developing a lasting business model whereby young people have a good chance of long term success. The turnover within our organization is astronomical, and I'm becoming convinced that the younger relationship managers like myself exist simply to connect the more senior advisors with wealthy people before failing in the role and moving onto other careers. My co-workers are fine, but the organization is structured in such a way that each team is really running its own business, so there isn't a lot of camaraderie across the office. The hardest part of my job i the constant rejection, and the fact that the vast majority of my outbound correspondence goes unanswered. The most enjoyable part of my job is meeting with clients and prospective clients, and hearing their

Hard working and relentless environment
While working at Credit Suisse I was able to be part of two distinct groups: IBD Latin America and the Asset Finance team with FID. The Latin America group allowed me to learn extensively regarding a variety of industries such as Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Healthcare, Consumer Retail and Telecommunications all within the Latin American region. CS LatAm underwrites all types of transactions including the issuance of debt (bonds) or equity (IPO's, follow-ons, etc.) and mergers and acquisitions advisory (both sell side and buy side). The work was rigorous and relentless often requiring all analysts to work grueling hours. On the other hand, I was fortunate to learn about the ins and outs of a transaction, financial modeling, and how to use several financial platforms including Bloomberg and Factset. My co-workers were generally all easy going and intelligent, people who I enjoyed working with. There was a disconnect between management and the more junior bankers - causing some conflicts of interest and lack of proper motivation for analysts and associates. The Asset Finance team was responsible for global origination, negotiation and execution of prime asset-backed securities. During my time at the group I was an important part of the entire transaction process, from creating marketing materials to pitch to clients to executing the transaction when it priced and came to market. Management was highly involved in the day to day work and included junior bankers in important me

A sure-shot career killer if you aren't ready to be a 24x7 slave
Worst work culture I've seen in my decade long career. Not sure about other locations but in Singapore it was pathetic. Lots and lots of work, extra hours, weekend-work, holiday-work, no holidays. No family/social life. Leaving office 'on time' is called 'leaving early'. You absolutely have to spend 13-14 hours on an average on a daily basis. If you ever leave office once in a blue moon at the official shift-end time, you attract weird glances and unfavorable comments often. And all this for no returns or rewards. People who joined earlier and have reached high positions now simply don't want others to grow so that their positions remain secured. They are totally against allowing people to grow. Due to this, People working their guts out for years remain stranded at the same position with no increase in salary year after year. I wasted invaluable 4 years of my career here, in CS Singapore. To survive here, you must have a godfather or a godmother who will pull you along every time he/she moves up. Otherwise, life here is like serving a sentence. One good thing that's come out in my favour after I've worked with them is, if I've survived in PTG at CS Singapore, I can survive anywhere. I've worked with a couple of other large firms in similar projects after my tenure at CS and I absolutely found things like cakewalk. Had no insecurities or issues at all.

Engaging and team oriented environment that focused not only on results, but delivery methods as well.
Credit Suisse had an excellent team and group oriented culture that promoted cross training and collaboration. I learned the basics of Investment Banking, Business Analysis and Project Management during my time there. This included working and delivering projects, responding to the needs of traders and staying on top of the changing mortgage back securities environment. Management was always engaged and responsive to my needs. They fostered constructive communication that allowed me to identify my personal weak spots and tackle them before they became major issues. My managers also recognized achievements without bias and were supportive of any efforts I undertook that better served the firm. My co-workers were mostly friendly and welcoming. The overall culture of Credit Suisse emphasized team work and a group mentality. This allowed for greater collaboration and minimized parochialism. The hardest part of the job was to keep abreast of all the institution changes going on due to the financial crisis and the effects they had on my projects. However, Credit Suisse was very good at communicating the changes so that helped calm some of the instability. The most enjoyable part of my job were my co-workers and team members as well as my direct managers. During my time at Credit Suisse, I feel like I made life long friends and professional contacts that will benefit me in the future.

Poor Management
Credit Suisse provided an opportunity to work with enterprise-level software applications, including both in-house, bespoke applications, and well-known, industry-standard platforms. This was a beneficial feature of the role. I also appreciated the international character of the employees, with daily work involving communication with teams around the globe, and with office mates having diverse backgrounds. On the negative side, I found my interactions with management to be inconsistent, ranging from friendly and mentoring to insulting and deceptive. I do not feel that contractors are treated very well by the company at all. The pay rates are wildly inconsistent, and communication about contract terms was not honest and forthcoming. I witnessed a colleague in tears over this treatment at one point. I also feel that the work/life balance for production support teams is very poor. I was on call every other weekend and routinely worked overtime during the week. I was compelled to cancel and change plans, including family trips, dates, and parties due to this role. My work hours also shifted repeatedly, and often involved evening work.

Fantastic company, great team and impressive management
As a contractor I have a varied role from managing small events, to running assessment days abroad to marketing. My days are busy but filled wtih multiple tasks and processes. I have learned a lot at Credit Suisse, mostly about investment banking on a global scale and the way in which the recruitment process works. I have access to the business, some of them at CEO level and I enjoy working with them closely. My managment team here are fantastic, encouraging and always willing to discuss new opportunities and be helpful. My co-workers are great, we are all a similar age and we get on very well, always supporting each other in everything. As my role is quite diverse I get to mix with the whole team, working on many different workstreams, something I greatly enjoy. The hardest part of my job is managing the business on assessment centre days as they can be flaky and late which puts the whole day off balance. Nonetheless, they are always friendly and I am quick to solve problems and adapt to situtaions under pressure. My most enjoyable part of the role is working with my team and working on a variety of projects - every day is different!
