Raues Klima
Roche Diagnostics is a Company that does well on the paper, but executes very poorly what it stands for. In 10 years careers I have been punished several times just for trying to speak up, applying the organisational values and change the system.
It has frequent restructurings, which give uncertainty about the future (even if the company works hard to retain their employees).
You progress in your career only if you are a “yes man” in a setup which is very vertical (even if they want you to believe the opposite).
Most of the management class which is left has no ideas and HR doesn’t know how to develop talent.
It used to be way better many years ago, now there are way better companies out there.
Dynamic, fast-paced, global leader in healthcare and life sciences
My responsibilities included developing the global marketing communications plan for our products and coordinating and managing the implementation of the plan across our offices in 126 countries. The most enjoyable part of this job was planning and collaborating directly with the communications directors and their teams in different countries (with different challenges, languages, opportunities, cultures...) and providing them with the counsel, support and resources to help them to achieve the business goals for their country and for our global organization.
The stakeholder need analysis is the part of my job that I appreciate the most. I always discover the structure, processes and need of stakeholders through a workshop and discovering people (human interaction) ease to understand the aim of processes which could be seen as a barrier or/and bottleneck.
I like working in a place where my line managers let giving the opportunity to his/her team to bring new idea or new approach and even to make the team independent able to provide themselves adjustment/correction.

Excellent opportunities if supported by Line Manager. Innovation and Creativity tends to be suppressed especially by insecure Line Managers. Could so more on gender diversity rather than just talk about it.

Should encourage more job rotation especially amongst Senior Management who hold same roles for over 15 years, rather than reorganise departments with no real change in leadership.

Organisational culture is paramount in the company through incentivised coffee meeting to network and meet new colleagues or guests at the company. This is encouraged by the Management who also frequently attends these informal coffee breaks.
With the informal atmosphere colleagues from other departments are just as likely to invite you for coffee or a conversation to catch up on either business or otherwise in a relaxed but responsible working culture.
VorteileExcellent networking culture; support for possible changes in careers
I had the opportunity to work with very bright and highly motivated colleagues. I had a pretty good work-life balance. Despite a rather conservative company culture, Roche is taking steps in the right direction toward diversity and inclusiveness. Employees are treated respectfully, and provided with special events and other perks to maintain team/department cohesiveness and morale. The campus and buildings in Basel are beautiful.
VorteileManagers act with integrity and treat people fairly.
NachteileWork processes and decision making remain areas for improvement.

The work we do is all about flexibility, guiding people to find that the responses to their questions is more often than not within themselves. There is a nice mix of communication, leadership, change management and meeting facilitation skills needed.Creativity and thinking out of the box all the while staying within a given remit imposed by legislation or the environment we work in.
The key skills are active listening and making a clear picture of a “spaghetti bowl” so to speak.

I enjoyed completing a BSc Hon in Pharmaceutical and Forensic Analysis as it enabled me to achieve a detailed knowledge and understanding of the sciences underpinning the forensic, pharmaceutical and analytical fields. It gave me exposure to, and experience in, the methodology and techniques at the forefront of major scientific areas. An emphasis was placed on “hands-on work” (approximately 50% of scheduled course work), enhanced my scientific knowledge in a highly desirable and much sought-after set of skills and expertise.
I have always looked for opportunities to enhance myself in everyway possible way not just to become a better person but also to become useful for my society at large. It has always been my dream to offer services that will improve the lives of others.
I have an excellent team spirit, always ready to learn and also use my initiative when and where necessary. As a mature student and a mother, I started my current course in 2009, although I found it challenging but I had my mind made up to become a very good example to my children and siblings and also to everyone around me who want to do things but are always afraid to start.
I believe that success comes with consistency, in anything and everything I’ve done that became successful, I found out consistency was my driving force which always paid off at the end of the day.
With my passion for science and technology, I had got some experience with the science department in the Limerick Institute of t
I've been working with the company for over 6 years and here are my thoughts on the company in it's current state:
Work life balance is very poor and you will be expected to work whatever hours are required to get the job done in entry level positions. I fully accept that this is the case periodically in most jobs but for the past two years I have finished work on time on less than 10 occasions. And, as a large number of teams are underresourced, the norm is for staff to work much more than their contracted number of hours per week without any chance of getting any time in lieu or paid overtime. This lack of necessary resources to manage the workload has been highlighted to senior management in the company but has been ignored (as it would affect profitability on which their bonuses are measured against). A team in one department in the local organization are expected to do approximately 3-4 times more work than the benchmarked average for their department with no plans to increase headcount or reduce workloads.
Field based staff get considerably less benefits than office based employees do and they are generally not considered as favourably as office based staff when it comes to filling internal vacancies.
The salarys paid in general are considerably less favourable than what our direct competitors pay their equivalent staff (between 10-20k pa less) with an inferior benefits package.
The senior leadership team decided to change the bonus structure this year whi

NachteileLong Hours, politics, poor management, bad pay, poor benefits, underresourced.
There was good and bad at Genentech in SSF; unfortunately, the bad far outweighed the good in our department and in a cross-functional department with which we frequently dealt. The environment was extremely political, restrictive, and often negative. When I first came to the company, and before I had started any work, my manager proactively warned me that "There are LOTS of land-mines here!” That was the very first red flag.
One cross-functional manager was allowed to run amok and wreak havoc, not only to his own team, but to other cross-functional teams as well. This resulted in unexpected sudden departures of high-performing employees on his team as well as collateral damage to cross-functional contractors.
There was little freedom of movement and information as everyone was constrained to work in silos that were closely guarded by management. This made collaboration among workers extremely difficult and sometimes such collaboration was actively discouraged by management. The quality of work output was mediocre in our department and management showed little interest in improving, in spite of being offered specific, efficient methods by very well-experienced personnel. The root cause of this was an inordinate fear of resistance from a cross-functional manager. And this observation was made, and privately discussed, among many well-experienced contractors and by some employees.
Management was completely intolerant of honest and diplomatic corrections made

Within my role at Roche I was required to juggle several tasks throughout my working day, this could vary from organising a global meeting, reconciling expenses for my team of 25 and taking minutes in a meeting.
I learnt how to manage my time and how to prioritise my work load better, also picking up many skills along the way of approaching and communicating with my colleagues. I was took the opportunity to enroll myself onto free training courses when they were available and found this beneficial in not only learning new skills but meeting new people and making new relationships throughout the company.
As a large, corporate company I found it very important to communicate with co-workers within and outside of my department and from this I built some great relationships and learnt alot more about the company. I also worked with some very helpful co-workers within my department and we all had a strong team work ethic. Although we had our own teams we supported we would each have a buddy to help take on some work throughout busy times and the rest of the team would also act as back ups if and when needed. Everyone would always pull together to ensure the task was completed efficiently.
The hardest part of the job was the volume of work and the diversity of the tasks on a daily basis, although I enjoy carrying out different tasks throughout my day I felt the pressure was always on. It was sometimes hard to find a balance with pleasing everyone I supported throughout bu

In my current position, I held several regional and global lead positions conducted under a Project Mmgt style. I gained extensive experience in significant issue mgmt, global compliance assessment as well as writing local and global processes, tools and procedures.
I was the lead for working with our vendor managers and the CRO leaders for our monitoring staff. They escalated significant site & study as well as monitor performance issues to me, and we collaborated on action plans, which were mainly subject to my approval.
I was the gatekeeper for severe issues, including fraud and misconduct for the highest GCP Council for reporting and managing them. I worked with the study teams extensively on these types of issues as well as CAPA implementation from audits/inspections.
I was afforded the opportunity to bring forth new ideas and the freedom to implement them at my discretion. I was well trusted, valued and often recognized for my achievements. I was always bringing something new to the table for process simplification. I wrote all of my own project training materials, which were often adopted globally. I was always thinking ahead toward streamlining and improving every aspect of my position. I'm very "big picture" and detail oriented, I'm very independent, and I leverage resources, tools & systems to simplify work.

NachteileMany issues that arose did not have supporting guidance docs resulting in many gray areas.
I worked in several departments at Roche and all of them suffered from the same issues: poor leadership and poor hiring decisions. Hiring based on who's relative a person is does not (usually) mean you are hiring the best candidate. It does, however, create fast animosity towards that person as well as create immediate cliques.
Management does not care about their employees. They continuously eliminate positions and pile on the work of 3 or 4 people onto 1 person leaving no time for a social life. Leadership is not transparent. However they are crass and degrading - talking about people in derogatory ways when they are not there to defend themselves. It's disgusting.
If you desire to work for an innovative company than this is not the place for you. They are afraid of being innovative and rely on the "we've been doing it like this forever and so it or we will not change" approach. This seems to be the case for both sides at the Indianapolis location: Roche Diagnostics and Roche Diabetes Care.
Senior leadership saves the most cringe worthy people by promoting them to high level project initiatives when the rest of their departments get laid off and jobs move to Costa Rica or the likes. Saving people who lack common sense, project management skills and social skills because they are BFFs with senior leaders or HR. Then creating jobs for these people out of the blue, that really are not needed from a business perspective. It's truly amazing.

Sant Cugat Digital Hub (just talking about my experience there) :
This site does not take care of employees. It is not the mission of the Site to keep people / Talent. That explains the high grade of people rotation. Every month people are leaving and new ones are coming.
There is a big lack of structure, this makes difficult to work for the department and to understand what they expect from you.
Flexibility concept of this site have a total different meaning here many times. It means that you need to be flexible for working at 18.00, 19.00, 20.00, 22.00, etc. They sell it as something good but it is not the case because of that reason. Somehow they have the ability of turning good things into bad things.
Even though they say the opposite and they really believe it, there is still the culture of, if your boss is in the office you must stay in the office till he leaves. The Digital Hub and Diabetes in general works like a big Silo. This means that if you are expecting to be able to make a career from here forget about it. Maybe Roche Diagnostics (in San Cugat as well) it is different and it is worth to try.
If you want to live in Barcelona, then it will take at least 1hour by public transport to reach the site. It does not matter where you live in the city. At the end of the day it always take 1 hour (forget about the car because of traffic jams).

My role in this job ranged from documentations expert to data manager to bio-statistician. Entering with a background in applied physics, I had a diverse and strong skill set, and this job required me to preform at all levels nearly all the time, whether I was networking with colleagues overseas to develop a testing procedure that would yield strong statistical power or to give an open presentation on our team's progress and statistical results. As my contract approached its end, my time was spent on data management and documentation.
The company provided ample support and cross-department assistance. The atmosphere was largely amicable and the employees were incredibly friendly, which alleviated the stress that came with the workload.
I was given the space and guidance to learn R, quickly becoming our office's expert, and developed statistical analysis modalities for verification protocols. I learned quality control procedures and how to produce adequate scientific publication for FDA submission. Learning is my favorite part of any job, and my role at Roche allowed me to absorb the knowledge and experience I need to become a stronger industry scientist.
Our company was approaching launch when I joined, so my employment was restricted to a contractor position which did not grant vacation nor holidays.
