Job Summary
As a Process Engineer, Electron Beam Lithography, you will develop and optimize advanced electron beam lithography processes used to create next-generation semiconductor and photonic devices.
Working closely with research and development teams, you will transform innovative device concepts into manufacturable lithography processes while supporting the transition from prototype development to high-volume production. You will own the electron beam lithography platform, drive continuous process improvements, and collaborate across engineering, metrology, and manufacturing teams to advance new technologies.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of research and manufacturing, enabling new product development and supporting the transfer of advanced device designs into production.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop and optimize electron beam lithography processes for high-resolution semiconductor and photonic device fabrication.
-
Generate, modify, and validate lithography layouts to support advanced technology development.
-
Translate electron beam-based designs into manufacturing-ready optical lithography processes.
-
Own and maintain electron beam lithography equipment, ensuring reliable operation and continuous capability improvements.
-
Collaborate closely with R&D teams to convert product concepts into scalable manufacturing processes.
-
Perform process characterization, Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and process optimization.
-
Utilize metrology techniques, including CD SEM, to monitor critical dimensions, process performance, and reproducibility.
-
Troubleshoot lithography, pattern transfer, and process stability challenges while implementing corrective actions.
-
Work with equipment suppliers on maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and technology improvements.
-
Partner with engineering, metrology, and manufacturing teams across global sites to support technology alignment and successful process transfer.
Qualifications
-
Master's or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Microtechnology, or a related technical discipline.
-
A few years of relevant industry or research institute experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or practical electron beam lithography or related microfabrication experience gained through doctoral research.
-
Background in semiconductor manufacturing, photonics, microfabrication, or a comparable cleanroom environment.
Additional Skills and Requirements
-
Hands-on experience with electron beam lithography systems and high-resolution patterning.
-
Experience with lithography layout preparation and design data handling.
-
Knowledge of process development, Design of Experiments (DOE), and statistical data analysis.
-
Experience using metrology equipment such as CD SEM or similar characterization tools.
-
Understanding of photolithography fundamentals and the transfer of electron beam developed processes into optical lithography is advantageous.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and solution-oriented approach.
-
Ability to collaborate effectively with R&D, engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams.
-
Excellent written and spoken English. German is an advantage.
