Mission

The Hummel Lab at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is seeking a highly motivated Scientific Assistant / Research Assistant to support a project in the field of transcranial temporal interference stimulation (tTIS).

The successful candidate will contribute to the neuroscientific, technological, and organizational activities of a multidisciplinary project focused on non-invasive deep brain stimulation using tTIS. The project encompasses computational modelling, hardware development, validation studies, and translational neuroscience research.

Main duties and responsibilities

Provide scientific, technological, and technical support for the implementation of the project.
Perform tTIS simulations using realistic head models.
Assist with the preparation, execution, and documentation of experimental studies.
Contribute to data collection, management, quality control, and preliminary analysis.
Support the coordination of research activities across multidisciplinary teams, facilitate communication between internal and external collaborators, and contribute to the timely progression of the project.
Assist in preparing ethics and regulatory documentation, study protocols, and project reports.
Contribute to literature reviews and scientific documentation.
Organize meetings, maintain project records, and support project management activities.
Support the recruitment and coordination of study participants, where applicable.

Profile

Master's degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience, neuroengineering, computation, or a closely related field, such as EPFL's Neuro-X Master's programme. Excellent academic results and relevant coursework in translational neuroengineering, advanced neuromodulation, neural interfaces, and computational neuroscience are highly desirable.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Experience in non-invasive brain stimulation using tTIS.
- Experience in personalized electric-field modelling of tTIS using realistic human head models.
- Experience in personalized brain-temperature modelling for non-invasive brain stimulation using realistic human head models.
- Experience in preparing ethics applications and protocols for tTIS studies.
- Excellent programming skills, particularly in Python.
- Experience in research projects and scientific data management.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in industry, particularly in a start-up environment, is an asset.
