The Bachem Group plans a new site in Sisslerfeld in Northwestern Switzerland as part of its long-term strategy to significantly expand production capacity. The new site will play a central role in supporting Bachem’s growth ambitions in peptide manufacturing.
To strengthen our Global Engineering organization, we are looking for a Senior Project Manager who will take full accountability for the successful delivery of large and complex CAPEX projects and build high-performing project teams from early concept through to operational readiness.
Overall project responsibility
Take full accountability for large-scale CAPEX projects ( >100 MCHF) across all project phases – from feasibility and concept studies through execution, commissioning, qualification and handover to operations
Building and leading high-performing teams
Establish, onboard and lead multidisciplinary project teams; define clear roles, responsibilities and ways of working, and ensure effective collaboration across all project participants
Owner’s project leadership and governance
Act as the Owner’s representative ensuring that project design and execution meets defined objectives (scope, functionality, capacity, cost, schedule, quality, safety and sustainability)
Drive governance processes including project charters, business cases, URS/URB inputs, and structured decision-making in alignment with Steering Committees
Stakeholder alignment and integration
Align and integrate all key stakeholders (User, QA, SHE, Manufacturing IT, Finance) into one high-performing project team and ensure transparent communication and collaboration
Execution strategy and partner management
Define and manage appropriate project delivery models (EPCm, EPC, AE&CM) from an Owner’s perspective and lead external engineering partners, contractors and suppliers
Project controls and performance management
Implement and ensure robust project controls (scope, schedule, cost, risk, change management) including structured reporting and forecasting (PMR) to senior management
Compliance and regulatory excellence
Ensure compliance with GMP requirements, corporate standards, local regulations and building codes across all project phases
Commissioning and operational readiness
Lead commissioning, qualification and start-up activities and ensure a smooth transition to operations including post-handover support (“hypercare”) to achieve stable and reliable performance
Leadership in decision-making and problem solving
Identify, challenge and evaluate alternatives, drive decision-making and proactively resolve critical project issues in close alignment with the Steering Committee
Your Profile
University degree (MSc / BSc) in Engineering, Construction or related discipline
Minimum 10 years of experience in managing large capital projects in an industrial, preferably GMP-regulated environment
Proven track record in leading complex CAPEX projects ( >100 MCHF) across all project phases
Strong experience in building, leading and developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams
Solid expertise in project execution models (EPCm, EPC, AE&CM / Design-Build)
Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills across all organizational levels
Strong understanding of GMP manufacturing, process, automation and infrastructure systems
Demonstrated experience in project governance, investment planning and cost control (CAPEX/OPEX)
Structured, self-directed and results-driven, with the ability to manage complexity and fast-track project environments
Certifications such as PMI, AACEi, ISPE or similar are a plus
Fluent in English, German is a strong advantage
