Overview:
Monte Rosa Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and innovative synthetic chemist to contribute to the advancement of our molecular glue degrader (MGD) platform. This role is ideally suited to a scientist with deep expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and a strong track record in developing novel methodologies to access differentiated chemical space.
Working within a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, you will play a key role in designing and expanding proprietary small-molecule libraries to support the discovery of transformative therapies. The position calls for scientific creativity, technical excellence, and the ability to bridge cutting-edge synthetic chemistry with modern medicinal chemistry principles.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop innovative small-molecule libraries targeting previously undruggable proteins using MGD approaches
- Act as a key driver in the evolution of the chemistry platform through the development of novel synthetic methodologies and reaction design
- Plan and oversee synthesis strategies executed through a global CRO network
- Integrate biological data (ADME, pharmacology) to inform compound design and optimization
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams (chemistry, biology, computational sciences) to ensure timely delivery of project milestones
- Strengthen technical capabilities to enhance innovation and efficiency
- Document and communicate scientific findings through internal reports, patents, and peer-reviewed publications
Qualifications:
- PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry; postdoctoral experience in academia or industry is preferred
- Strong expertise in complex molecule synthesis and/or reaction and methodology development
- Demonstrated track record of scientific impact through publications and/or patents
- Solid understanding of medicinal chemistry principles and their application in drug discovery
- Experience in parallel synthesis would be advantageous
- Experience with CRO collaborations is advantageous but not essential, including exposure to outsourced synthesis strategies
- Sound understanding of preclinical drug discovery, including ADME and developability considerations
- Familiarity with chemical databases, visualization tools, and molecular modelling (e.g. Maestro)
- Awareness of emerging discovery modalities (e.g. DEL, direct-to-biology approaches)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster effective scientific collaboration
- Proactive, forward-thinking mindset with a strong interest in innovation and continuous development
