The Global Portfolio Communications lead will have responsibility for managing global communications/public relations for the Immunology Franchise, with some GI responsibilities. This role will partner with franchise leadership and commercial teams and the Head of Immunology Communications as well as other functions to develop and execute comprehensive global communications and public relations strategies and campaigns for Shire’s late-stage pipeline, marketed products, and therapeutic areas. This role also will partner with the International Commercial Communications team to ensure regional and country roll out of external strategies/tactics. The strategies will include driving unbranded awareness and education for key disease areas, developing public relations approaches for product data dissemination, and building and maintaining Shire’s reputation as a leader in therapeutic areas of focus.

Additionally, the role will assist in the development and implementation of Global Immunology employee communications in support of the franchise goals and objectives- building internal awareness of key therapeutic initiatives via creative internal communications.

This role will partner closely with the R&D Communications Lead to ensure consistency of messaging about key therapeutics/disease areas of focus for the company as well as a seamless handoff of product communications management for late-stage pipeline products. Additionally, this position will be supported by and will provide support to other teams within the broader Communications and Public Affairs organization (Internal Communications, External Communications, Digital Communications, Patient Advocacy and Public Affairs).
This role reports to the Head of Immunology Communications who is based in Massachusetts.
Essential Functions

Describe the essential job duties. Partner with the Global Immunology commercial teams and the Head of Immunology Communications to develop and implement external and internal communications plans, campaigns and messaging to help protect, enhance and, in some cases, build Shire’s reputation as a leader in key therapeutic categories. (25%)
Partner with commercial teams and Head of Immunology Communications to develop and implement communication/PR plans to support the performance optimization of key products, which would include effectively managing product milestones such as launches and data dissemination. (35%)
Provide strong project management/leadership, including effectively leading and guiding retained communications/public relations firms, on key communications activities and initiatives, ensuring they are completed on time with a high level of quality, in accordance with Medical, Legal and Regulatory requirements. (15%)
Work effectively with the International Communications teams to ensure consistent strategic and tactical implementation of global communication programs and initiatives across regions and countries. Provide leadership and/or support on projects as needed. (15%)
Anticipate and effectively manage issues impacting Shire’s brands in therapeutic areas of focus, with a focus on media relations. (10%)

Experience:
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree or above in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or English
At least 8 to 10 years’ communications experience
Experience working at or with PR agencies
Issues management experience
International coordination experience
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical legal/regulatory environment
Media relations experience

Desired:
Scientific education (Biology or Chemistry)
Pharmaceutical brand/product communications experience
Corporate global experience
Strategic thinker and tactical driver and implementer
