Your Role.
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong hands-on mindset to take responsibility for the mechanical development of our electric powertrain for light commercial vehicles.
In this role, you will take technical ownership of the mechanical architecture and design of key components within our electric drivetrain. This includes the battery, power electronics, motor, gearbox, shafts, bearings, structural components and the interfaces to the vehicle structure.
You will work closely with our design team as well as our electrical and software departments, and support development from concept through calculation and simulation to verification in the vehicle and in the field.
At Flux, you will work in a small team with short decision-making paths. You will take ownership of technical decisions early and directly shape the architecture of our vehicles.
- Take technical responsibility for the mechanical design of the electric powertrain in our light commercial vehicles.
- Perform the mechanical and thermal sizing of key components such as gearboxes, shafts, housings and structural interfaces.
- Carry out strength, durability and thermal calculations to validate the design.
- Work closely with the design team to translate the mechanical architecture into robust, manufacturable components.
- Integrate the powertrain into the overall vehicle together with the electrical, software and workshop teams.
- Plan and lead verification and validation activities for powertrain components and systems in collaboration with external development and test partners.
- Support purchasing with the technical selection and evaluation of suppliers.
- Support aftersales with technical questions and field issues related to the powertrain.
- Analyse test results and field data to continuously improve the mechanical design.
- Degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or a comparable discipline.
- At least 5 years of industry experience in the development and design of mechanical systems.
- Practical experience in the design of drivetrain systems or components, for example gearboxes, shafts, bearings or structural components.
- Experience with mechanical calculation methods and simulation tools, for example FEM.
- Experience working with suppliers and development partners.
- Ability to take technical ownership and systematically develop complex systems.
- Experience in the automotive industry is an advantage, but not essential.
- Enjoy working across disciplines in a pragmatic, fast-moving team.
At Flux, we develop electric commercial vehicles in small teams with a high level of ownership. Our vehicles are already in real-world use – on construction sites, in cities and in the daily operations of our customers.
This means that decisions are made close to the product. Engineers take responsibility for their systems throughout the full development cycle – from concept and testing through to issues seen in the field.
If you enjoy developing robust engineering solutions, taking ownership and working in an environment where execution matters more than hierarchy, this role is likely to suit you.
About Flux.
Flux Mobility AG was founded in April 2021. Our mission is to develop high-quality light commercial vehicles with innovative, emission-free drivetrain technologies and to electrify specialist vehicles in Winterthur.
Our vehicles are built on a flexible platform concept that enables the direct replacement of diesel vehicles on a one-to-one basis. In doing so, we are helping to drive the sustainable transformation of industrial mobility and enabling companies to realise the full potential of electric mobility.
