Senior Reinsurance Claims Associate
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
As a senior member of the International reinsurance claims team you will play a critical role in protecting AXIS Re’s balance sheet, reputation, and long‑term relationships by ensuring that complex casualty reinsurance claims are managed consistently, accurately, and in line with contractual and regulatory expectations. Through strong technical leadership, the role supports sound reserving, effective loss analysis, and disciplined decision‑making across long‑tail and high‑severity casualty exposures.
In addition to managing your own assigned block of business you may be asked to lead and develop other reinsurance claims professionals. This role directly contributes AXIS high service standards, quality claim review and operational resilience. Through close collaboration with our AXIS colleagues in underwriting, actuarial, finance and legal, and external business partners at our brokers and cedants, the role is responsible for developing claims insights that support better portfolio understanding, improved risk management, and informed business decisions.
What will you do in this role?

Provide expert oversight and direction on complex casualty and specialty reinsurance claims, including long‑tail, high‑severity and coverage‑sensitive matters.

Lead coverage interpretation and liability analysis under excess of loss, proportional and facultative reinsurance contracts.

Act as escalation point for aggregation, exhaustion, attachment disputes, commutation strategy, and complex casualty settlement structures review and execution.

Maintain oversight of large loss notifications and casualty loss developments, ensuring timely reporting and issue escalation.

Ensure appropriate establishment, monitoring and governance of case reserves and IBNR for assigned casualty and specialty portfolios.

Work closely with actuarial and finance teams on loss development, emerging trends, and reserve adequacy.

Support reserve committees, large loss reviews, and senior management reporting relating to casualty exposures.

Lead, mentor and develop reinsurance claims specialists, ensuring strong technical capability and consistent handling standards.

Allocate and prioritize workloads across assigned team to meet reporting, service and governance requirements as needed.

Provide performance management, coaching and development planning for direct reports as needed.

Ensure casualty claims are handled in accordance with AXIS Re claims guidelines, delegated authorities, and regulatory expectations.

Support internal and external audits, QA reviews and regulatory inquiries relating to casualty claims.

Promote strong file quality, documentation standards and data integrity across casualty claims files and systems.

Act as a senior casualty claims contact for cedants, brokers, underwriting, legal, actuarial and finance stakeholders.

Participate in underwriting support discussions, portfolio reviews, and claims strategy forums relating to casualty business.

Represent AXIS Re Claims in cross‑functional initiatives and global casualty working groups.

Contribute to management and executive reporting on casualty claims trends, emerging risks and mass tort exposures.

Identify and support operational and digital improvements impacting casualty claims handling.

Share reinsurance claims expertise, lessons learned and best practices across the global AXIS Re Claims organisation.

What you need to have:

Significant experience in casualty reinsurance claims handling, including excess casualty and long‑tail exposures.

Strong understanding of reinsurance contract structures, coverage interpretation, aggregation and attachment issues.

Experience with large loss management, commutations and complex casualty negotiations.

Familiarity with claims systems and workflows (e.g. SICS).

Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop experienced claims professionals.

Strong judgement, decision‑making and escalation capability for complex casualty matters.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

High standards of integrity, governance awareness and regulatory discipline.
What we prefer you to have:

Experience handling international claims or working across multiple jurisdictions.

Ability to use data analysis tools (e.g., Power BI, Co Pilot) to create dashboards and identify trends.

Role Factors:
In this role, you will typically be required to:

Maintain a regular on‑site presence of a minimum of three days per week, in line with AXIS Re office attendance expectations.

Travel internationally on an occasional basis to support claims audits and key stakeholder meetings.

Build, maintain, and strengthen effective working relationships with internal stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, Legal) and external partners including cedants, brokers, auditors, and service providers.
